Kirk Pynchon

Kirk Pynchon (Emeritus) graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of New Hampshire with a degree in theater and dance. He moved to Chicago, hooked up with the Factory Theater and spent the next four years at the Factory as an actor and writer in some of the most cutting edge comedies seen in the windy city. Some of his credits there include Reefer Madness, Bitches, Alive, Being at Choice, and Second City Didn't Want Us.

Perhaps his biggest Chicago success came from the two-man show ManCard, which he co-starred, co-wrote, and co-directed. ManCard, a series of 12 sketches satirizing (and celebrating) the straight white male, ran for a year to sold out audiences, receiving city wide critical praise. Upon

moving to Los Angeles, Kirk remounted ManCard, which ran for three months and garnished huge reviews, receiving critic's choice in both the LA Times and Backstage West. The show also played at the HBO Aspen Comedy Arts Festival.

Kirk has had leads in the LA premieres of the Factory Theater's long running White Trash Wedding and a Funeral, Attack of the Killer B's, and Being at Choice. He was also the star of the stage version of Joe Queenan's 12 Steps to Death, playing an out of control cop. Critics said of his performance, "Pynchon is the real find of the evening, a winning actor with a refreshingly caustic sense of humor that drives the show." Kirk has written and starred in the critically hailed Kirk du Soleil, a one-man show about his obsession with rules, lists, and winning which played at the HBO/Warner Workspace. He is also the co-creator (with Mike Meredith) of the successful Poppin' and Lockdown, a breakdancing prison comedy set in 1984. Kirk played the lead as well as serving as fight and dance choreographer, and won a Backstage West Garland Award for Best Choreography of 2000.

Kirk is also an ensemble member of the legendary Actors' Gang Theater, having performed in Mephisto (directed by Tim Robbins) The Seagull, and The Pie Show. Most recently he has been working with the critically hailed Furious Theater Company, and will perform in their West Coast premiere of Jez Butterworth's Mojo.
