Synopsis

Goldie McJohn is a playwright ready to quit the business. His wife is 8 months pregnant, he's had moderate success, but not enough....Enter the prestigious Lawdy Mama Theater Company to offer him a slot in their upcoming season....if it is successful he gains a spot in the theater company. Sounds easy enough right? Well throw in a distraught company member who'll stop at nothing to sabotage the show, not to mention some peculiar actors, an insane director and her two wacky cohorts, a power crazed restaurant owner, a mention of Shakespeare's Scottish play and a Cesarean, and you have insanity unleashed....it's Toast of the Town!!

  Mike Beyer (Goldie McJohn)

Mike is happy to continue his ten-year association with OKen and Nick in Toast Of The Town. Here are some of the productions Mike has done in the past decade with these two: Sabotage, White Trash Wedding And A Funeral, at times Alive, Preying Manthis, Win, Place or Show, Escape From The North Pole, Repair Guys, Clean ("Hey! Streetwise! Get off the car!"), Surface Dwellers and Here Comes A Regular. He is particularly happy to be having fun with this hilarious cast. No stranger to the birthing process, Mike and his wife Eileen have a two-year-old son and are expecting their second in June. He is currently working on his solo album "Beavin' It", and plans to release it in tandem with his concept performance art video, called "Beave The Drum Slowly". Tonight's performance is dedicated to you, the Chicago theatre patron.

  Mike Beyer

  Allison Cain (Myrna Flockstein)

Allison received her training at Carnegie Mellon University and Columbia College. She has worked almost exclusively on new work since 1990, in Los Angeles, Connecticut, Scotland and Chicago. She became the Artistic Director of the now defunct, Studio 108, after moving to Chicago (where she produced twelve new works, co-directing two of them) and has acted in a bunch of plays with various theater companies throughout the city over the past 14 years. She has been a member of the Factory since 2000 and is currently the Executive Director. Lastly, she thinks Scott OKen is one of the best people in the entire world!

  Allison Cain

  Tucker Curtis (Chief Floyd Rose)

Tucker Curtis loves you, though he sometimes has funny ways of showing it. He is thrilled to be working with the fine Factory folks for the second time, having previously crack-smoked his way through last years Poppin' and Lockdown 2. Tucker has been fortunate enough to work with many Chicago theaters, but should single out WNEP (where he's an Artistic Associate). He's also a co-founder, performer, and cheerleader for Thinkprov, where patience equals perfection. Tucker loves the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots thus making him infinitely better than you! Tucker would like to dedicate his performance tonight to St. Patrick, Jameson's, Guinness, leprechauns, the Blarney Stone, and all the Irish women in his life from Bolton and Keegan to Bailey and Easton. Kiss me!

  Tucker Curtis

  Ernest Deak (Bob Hope/Co-Writer)

Ernie Deak is thrilled to the bejeezus belt to be back amongst the Factory again. His past credits include co-writing Win, Place or Show and Surface Dwellers, as well as originating the roles of Mr. Velasquez and Martin Barre. He has one wife and two cats, and he is still a little annoyed that F/X cancelled "Lucky".

  Ernest Deak

  Matt Engle (Cy Curnin)

Matt Engle is excited to be back performing with his fellow Factory members. His previous Factory credits include: Being At Choice, Among The Dead, and Chicagostyle. Originally from South Carolina, Matt moved to Chicago in 1998. Since then, he has acted and improvised with a number of theatre companies around this fair city. Matt was last seen as the battered Irish cad, Rookie Lee, in Howie The Rookie at Steep Theatre. And, here's a little known fact about Matt. By day, he teaches the future of America to speak pirate.

  Matt Engle

  Tara Handron (Melinda Comaway)

SWF. Born and raised: White Plains, NY, of Spacecamp fame. Recent projects include: performed in Chicago Sketchfest 2005; understudied Godshow at the Second City, Etc. Education: NYU-BFA. Loves: the seasonal pumpkin spice latte which is somehow still in season
and Liz Phair’s lyrics. Dislikes: navy blue pumps. Huge mama thanks to Nick, Scott, Ernest, the Factory &
this amazing cast.

  Tara Handron

  Paul S. Holmquist (Dr. Hardon)

Paul is grateful that Manny talked him into this, his first performance with the funny people at the Factory.  Paul is actually not handsome in real life so this role offers him a unique challenge.  Most recent attempts at acting include Strong Poison at Lifeline Theatre and Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging (Jeff Citation, Ensemble) at the Griffin Theatre where he is a company member.  Paul is a BFA acting grad of The Theatre School at DePaul (’98) and is currently working towards a Graduate Laban Certificate in Movement Analysis through Columbia College Chicago.  Paul is married to the actress Vanessa Greenway and is ever appreciative of her suffering no fools with the exception of him (reflexive pronoun).

  Paul S. Holmquist

  Christine Jennings (Nurse Chinworthy)

Christine Jennings adores her Factory family. Love to P.J.

  Christine Jennings

  Alexis Klossner (Yvonne Elliman)

Alexis is so excited to be working with the fantastic, hysterically funny, balls-to-the-wall Factory folks again. She rocked out as Donna McTweedle in Menage aTrailer and consumed mass quantities of human flesh in Among the Dead. Alexis is also a proud ensemble member and company manager of Open Eye Productions. A native Texan, she graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a BFA in Theater Arts. Love to Nachos Bell Grande.

  Alexis Klossner

  Dana LaRue (Lorraine Sweet)

Dana is tickled pink to make her Factory debut. A native Chicagoan, she has acted for Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Griffin Theatre, Next Theatre,Chicago ScriptWorks, A Reasonable Facsimile Theatre Co., and Paper Moon. Regional credits include: The Phoenix Theatre (Indianapolis), Milwaukee Repertory Theatre uh...Milwaukee), and Monomoy Theatre (Cape Cod). Dana can also currently be seen in a nationally broadcast Diurex commercial, grateful to no longer suffer the heartbreak of bloating. She holds a BA in Theatre from the now-defunct Barat College in Lake Forest, IL (thanks, DePaul) and an MFA in Acting from Ohio University. In related news: Dana has a bionic eye, loves her family, and likes playing with Nick and the Factory posse so much that she could 'splode! Mwah, HH!

  Dana LaRue

  Laura McKenzie (Arabella C. Doyle)

Previous Factory credits include: Menage à Trailer (co-writer and performer), Being at Choice, and Chicagostyle. A native Texan, Laura has lived and performed all across the country, including doing her one woman show Laura McKenzie Feels Like Makin' Love in Chicago, New York and Seattle. Other writer-performer credits include: Alice with the Neo-Futurists, Funk Cloud: Fight the Stank! and Waiting On Godot (co-written with Kate Hawley). Laura is a graduate of Northwestern University, and does not have a job that offers health insurance.

  Laura McKenzie

  Paul Metreyeon (Wallington Smithington Silverston)

Paul loves the Factory, and is humbled to be included in this brilliant cast. He was last seen at the Factory in Menage a Trailer, proving that tube socks, flip flops and a beer hat are a strangely sexy combo. Many thanks to Nick, Oken, and Deak for the lines and the laughs, and to my beautiful Shannon.

  Paul Metreyeon

  Scott OKen (Bigsby/Co-Writer)

Scott OKen is pleased to be doing something other than screaming at old people driving, so he co-wrote "Toast of the Town" and started growing bell peppers. A Factory Vet, he has appeared in many Factory Productions. Oh, you want me to list it!!!! Fine!!! Being at Choice, Sabatage, White Trash Wedding and a Funeral, Preying Manthis, Urban Legends, Clean, Win-Place-or Show, Surface Dwellers(Also Co-wrote and directed), The Endzone, Escape from the North Pole, Factory Match Game, and Menage a Trailer as a member of the now legendary GuzzlerZ. This enabled him to give up his porn career......Oh you want me to list that!!!! Fine!!!
Fistmun, Catch the Sac, She loves it -Yeah-Yeah-Yeah, mmmmm...lunch, Spread it, and of course the immortal Balls of St. Mary's. After production closes he will embark on a fact-finding mission to Texas to discover the secret chord progressions of the most important band of our time....Bloodrock!!! Stick to your studies...nothing in life is free!!

  Scott Oken

  Manny Tamayo (Roy/Jake Stone)

Manny is a proud member of the Factory ensemble. He hails from Joliet, IL.

  Manny Tamayo

  Anthony Tournis (Commissioner Thurston deBladderhorn)

Anthony is overjoyed to be finally working with The Factory. You might recognize his ugly mug from such shows as Leonce and Lena, Calgony Springs, and coming this September Empire Builders with The Right Brain Project. Anthony would like to thank family, friends, Dawgs, and Jen the Muse.

  Anthony Tournis

  Heather Tyler (Kay McJohn)

Heather L. Tyler is happy to be working with the beautiful people of Toast of the Town. Heather was last seen in Factory's Menage A Trailer as a rock n' roll prison debutante, and before that in a variety of whorish roles in Speed The Play, performed at this years Abbie Hoffman Fest. She has also performed in shows with The Hypocrites and Defiant Theatre, improving the quality of each of these productions. Significantly. Heather loves that actor's bios are written in the third person, as if someone else were simply raving about them. Love to Mateo...(Bio by Beav.)

  Heather Tyler

  Chas Vrba (Eddie Kahler/Sound Design)

Chas Vrba wrote this bio rather hurriedly, as he missed it on his "To Do" list as he was preparing for the show and his wedding simultaneously. Toast of the Town is Chas' 1st Factory show as an actor, while Barbara is his 12th or 13th wife, or rather this is Chas' 12 or 13th show and Barbara is his first wife, his ONLY wife. Love to The Toast of the Town gang, The Factory, and of
course, Barbara.

  Chas Vrba

  Steve Welsh (Renchini Shatterson)

Steve Welsh has never been lucky. This morning his car was booted by the New Yorker Magazine for not paying his subscription, it wasn't even his subscription but they claimed he read it so he has to pay. All his clothes smell like syrup so he's attacked by bees everywhere he goes; they're really angry in the winter. He lost his sense of smell by staring at the sun and it fried his nose hairs. Dammit. He cannot accept any of this and continues to pray that the Republican party has something to do with God. All hail the hyrax.

  Steve Welsh

bullet The Crew

  Nick Digilio (Director)

Nick is the Artistic Director of the Factory Theater, and a rabid and unapologetic fan of Gilmore Girls (Tuesday nights at 7pm, The WB). Here are some things he believes: Jeff Bridges is the best actor of all time, and John Carpenter is the finest filmmaker ever (so clearly, "Starman" really kicks ass!). REM sucks, but Madonna rules. "Sanford and Son" could possibly be the best TV show of all time, but "M*A*S*H" is crap. Woody Allen is a pretentious ass who has made a total of two good movies. Clay Aiken should have won. Don DeLillo's "Underworld" is the best book ever. All music begins and ends with Black Sabbath. The Quizno's spongemonkeys are genius. Patricia Heaton is a MILF. "Revolver" is the best Beatles album. Shake rules the "Aqua Teen Hunger Force." Paul Giamatti was ROBBED and Jamie Foxx is a complete jackass. Brew and View is the best place on earth. Shemp is the best stooge. Pepper Jack cheese is soooo good. "Used Cars" is the funniest movie ever made. Listerine breath strips are weird and awesome. Mac, not PC. "Magnolia" is one of the finest works of the 20th Century. www.angryalien.com is hilarious. Vinyl sounds best. Decade DVD is the best DVD shop in the city. R.I.P. HST. Dr. Pepper = underrated drink. PG-13 horror movies must be stopped. Scott OKen is a genius. Since 1992 he's done tons of theater stuff in Chicago. Most recent, recent credits (as writer, director, and/or actor...or some combination of that stuff): Curse of the Starving Class, Jack or the Submission, Arcadia, Lakeboat, (The Hypocrites). Among the Dead, Dick Danger: DJ Crimesolver, Here Comes a Regular, Being at Choice, Menage a Trailer (Factory).
And, Nick once swallowed a wasp that was in his can of Coke.

Joe Gehr (Stage Manager)
...Yes! My ASS has finally decided to eat my own hand!...It HUNGERS!...For MORE!!!

Jennifer Grace (Costume Design)
Jennifer Grace is happy to be working with Nick and the Factory kids again. She is a proud Hypocrites company member. Other design credits include: References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot with Bailiwick; Menage A Trailer with Factory; and Hypocrites' productions True West,
Equus,Edward Gorey's Dispirited Diversions For Christmas, and Balm In Gilead, the latter of which earned her a Joseph Jefferson nomination for best costume design. As always, love to Tommy.

Wade Nachtigall (Set Design)
...Okie in Chicago. Sail on. U.S.S. Prairie Schooner.

Ziggy Olson (Props)
Charlie “Ziggy” Olson is from Maryland and then St. Louis. He’d like to point out that the Latin word for “soul” is psyche and the Latin verb “to reveal” is delos. So technically psychedelic means “soul-revealing.” Word.

Jennifer Pompa (Program Layout)
Sometimes I drive Joe to the theater.

Dan Tamarkin (Technical Director/Lighting Design)
Dan is thrilled to be working with the Factory again - it's a nice break from swinging cats, running Why A Duck Theatrical Productions, and playing strings with Nutmeg Slim & the Uptown Motherpluckers. And if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce, it tastes much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Thanks Groucho. Thanks also to everyone at the Factory, to Jean, and to you - hope you have as much fun as I've had.
